What will i learn?

People often ask what our training consists of in our Karate programs. Although my first thought when asked this question is that there are so many aspects of Karate training that you could come to dozens of classes and still not truly recognize all that is encompassed from the lessons and the effort you put forth, the benefits of Karate will stay with you your entire life. Going far beyond kicking, punching and the physical things that most people think of when they start a Karate program, you will develop leadership skills, organizational skills, teamwork skills, increased focus, more determination, problem solving, humility, improved overall confidence, better self-control, greater fitness, and many other positive attributes that will help you for a lifetime.

But the short answer for the question of what our Karate program physically consists of, one could say that has equal parts consisting of:

1. Traditional Karate/Kobudo (techniques developed over hundreds of years that are required learning for ranking in our worldwide traditional Karate/Kobudo systems (more information on Kobudo down below).

2. Practical Application of Traditional Karate; tying traditional techniques to self-defense needs of today.

3. Self-Protection (skills for prevention, awareness, de-escalation, and then if attacked, help you physically defend the attack).

4. Sparring (controlled sparring either for sport, or for lessons on physical confrontation).

5. Combat Skills (maximizing efficiency, accuracy and power in all of our techniques, which includes kicking, punching, and all effective striking).

Whatever your reason for training is, you will find yourself better prepared for many of life’s challenges whether physical or not. All of this while gaining a sense of satisfaction for setting and accomplishing many goals you set for yourself.

Beyond Karate

After the student has shown a degree of mastery in the martial arts by ranking up to the proper level, Okinawan Kobudo is then offered as a new option to enhance the understanding of Karate techniques as well as those revealed in Kobudo. Discover history and open up your Karate training to new possibilities as you train in the wild Nunchaku, the mighty Bo staff, the cutting blades of the Kama, and the swift yet strong Tonfa.

Soon you will discover how both of the martial arts go hand-in-hand with and compliment each other as more manipulations are taught and learned. As you advance, you'll be surprised at just what you can do if you know how!
